DUTIES AND
FUNCTIONS OF THE HARBOR POLICE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION

The Harbor Police Department’s
Criminal Investigations Division was established in 1970. The division was
formed to follow up on reports of cargo thefts, ship burglaries, robberies
of seamen and other crimes. The Criminal Investigations Division also
performs, but is not limited to, the following functions:
- Filing criminal cases with the district attorney’s office.
- Performing V.I.P. and dignitary escorts and protective services.
- Working closely with task forces from local law enforcement and
federal law enforcement divisions.
- Collection of evidence and property from crime scenes and ensuring the
security of such in the department’s property and evidence storage
facility.
- Conducting applicant investigations and background checks.
- Consulting with the District Attorney’s Screening Attorney’s.
- Conducting Interviews/Interrogations of suspects, witnesses, and
members of the local business community.
